On January 29, 2026, the commissioning ceremony for the LiuGuo Veolia Wastewater Treatment Upgrade Project was held with great fanfare. As Ms. Julia Gu, CEO of Veolia China, and other leaders jointly pressed the activation button, treated effluent meeting regulatory standards flowed steadily from the discharge outlet—marking the official launch of this key initiative aimed at improving Tongling’s ecological environment and supporting industrial upgrading. Representatives from the Tongling Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, Tongguan District Government, the Henggang Chemical Park Management Committee of Shizishan High-tech Zone, and other government agencies and partners attended to witness this milestone event.

In his speech, Mr. Michael Mi, Senior Vice President of Veolia China, expressed sincere gratitude to government leaders and partners for their ongoing support and guidance. He also paid tribute to the entire project team for their dedication and hard work throughout construction.

Since groundbreaking on March 6, 2025, the project was completed in just nine months, progressing through critical stages including site preparation, civil construction, equipment installation and commissioning, and full-scale trial operations. Throughout the process, Veolia upheld its core value of "Safety First," strictly enforcing the "12 Life-Saving Rules" to ensure a zero-accident safety record across the entire project lifecycle. Committed to the principles of "high standards, strict oversight, and high quality," the team maintained rigorous control over construction quality, schedule, and safety, successfully achieving stable water flow. The treated effluent consistently meets China’s Class 1A standard for municipal wastewater treatment plants.

As a flagship demonstration of Veolia’s purpose—"Resouring the World "—and its strategic focus on decarbonization, resource generation, and de-pollution, the facility has a maximum daily treatment capacity of 14,400 tons. It employs an advanced treatment process combining Anoxic-Oxic (A/O) bio-treatment, secondary sedimentation, high-efficiency clarification, and disinfection, offering high efficiency, low energy use, and reliable effluent quality. Once fully operational, the plant will reduce annual emissions by approximately 289.06 tons of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), 157.68 tons of Suspended Solids (SS), 94.6 tons of Ammonia Nitrogen (NH3-N), 24.97 tons of Total Phosphorus (TP), and 81.46 tons of Total Nitrogen (TN). This will significantly improve local water quality, protect ecosystems, and strengthen regional ecological resilience.

The project’s launch not only enhances environmental management and risk mitigation in Tongling’s Henggang Chemical Park but also exemplifies Veolia’s active role in advancing Tongling’s ecological transformation and industrial green transition. By turning industrial wastewater into clean, reusable water, the project turns waste into a valuable resource, supporting urban sustainability through circular economy principles and contributing to the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Going forward, Veolia will ensure professional operation and maintenance of the facility, leveraging its technical expertise and environmental management capabilities to support sustainable industrial growth in the park. The company will also deepen its strategic partnership with Tongling to jointly promote a greener, more sustainable future for the region.
