Foshan Medical Waste Treatment Project

With a rapidly developing economy and booming consumer culture, China is seeing the proliferation of something less desirable – municipal trash. Among the different types of waste, medical waste requires extra care in handling given its infectious nature. Proper medical waste management is therefore an important part of any city’s public health and environmental policies.

Each step of the way in processing medical waste, including collection, transportation, treatment and disposal, is critical to a city’s health and environmental wellbeing.

Chinese health authorities are relying on Veolia, an experienced partner in waste management, to provide expert medical waste treatment services.

The Veolia Solution

As part of Foshan’s vision to establish itself as a green city, the Foshan Sanitation Bureau appointed Veolia to build and operate the Foshan Medical Waste Treatment Center, implementing expert processes and state-of-the-art technologies to manage the medical waste for a population of 7 million.

The Foshan Medical Waste Treatment Project is responsible for the collection, transportation and treatment of medical waste generated from five districts of Foshan City. Veolia employs advanced equipment to ensure combustion temperature of over 850 degrees and installed a fully automated incineration process in full compliance with local medical waste control regulations. The treatment centre is designed for minimal impact to the environment, with the application of dry lime and ceramic filters and European-standard flue gas emission.

Introducing efficient and sustainable operation methods, Veolia established one of the most advanced medical treatment plants in China.
