60% Reused industrial water in China

Tangshan Iron & Steel (TIS), a subsidiary of one of the three largest iron and steel producers in the world and number one steel manufacturer in China, has selected Veolia to manage and improve the water management process for two industrial projects.

TIS has signed a 30-year contract with Veolia to treat the water from its two new plants in Tangshan, in east China, which will produce liquefied natural gas and coal in the future. After start-up, the plants will enable the continuous production of steel.

Veolia will construct and subsequently operate the wastewater treatment unit, and the water cooling and recycling equipment from industrial water. These technologies that are in place aim at a 60% reuse of water resources.

As highlighted by Veolia CEO, Antoine Frérot, "We are therefore helping this prestigious industrial customer to better plan for the future of its sector: cleaner and more productive processes and mines with a reduced environmental impact and enhanced economic performance levels".
